Longhorn Wrestling Team Continues to Enjoy Successful from 2024-25 Season

April 27, 2025

The Burwell Wrestling team is not only enjoying the success of their 24-25 season, they are also enjoying the respect of their peers from across the state. Co-Head Coaches, Luke and Evan Gideon were recently voted as Class D Wrestling Coaches of the Year in the Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association. In addition, Longhorn Assistant Coaches, Mark Jensen and D.J. Stephens were voted as Class D Assistant Wrestling Coaches of the Year. To round out the postseason excitement, senior Cale Buss will receive the NSWCA Class D Boys Scholarship. All of this is on the heels of a very successful high school season that saw the Longhorns finish as the NSAA Class D State Wrestling Dual Champions and the NSAA Class D State Wrestling Championship Team.

The Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association started in 1975, with a group of wrestling coaches headed by Jim Holechek of Lincoln East. They envisioned an organization of wrestling coaches to promote the sports of wrestling at all levels across the state. They not only maintain the Nebraska Wrestling Hall of Fame for competitors, contributors, coaches and officials but they also give several scholarships and awards at their annual banquet. Coaches Luke Gideon, Evan Gideon, Mark Jensen, and D.J. Stephens, along with senior Cale Buss,  will be honored at this year’s Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Boulder Flatts in Grand Island, Nebraska. Tickets to the banquet are available online at nswca.com.

The Hall of Fame Banquet will be followed by the NSWCA All Star Dual which features senior male and female wrestlers from across the state in a spotlight dual in Grand Island. The NSWCA congratulates the Burwell High School Longhorns and their coaches for their wonderful accomplishments in the 24-25 season.
