Business Discovery Day
October 27, 2013
Burwell’s Entrepreneurship class attended Business Discovery Day held in Ord on Wednesday, October 23. Kylr Dawe, Rebekah Birch, Sarah Gumb, Sadey Mitchell, William David, and teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Critel, participated in many events throughout the day. Students took an Entrepreneurial Talent Assessment and listened to students from Cody-Kilgore speak of a grocery store they built in their community. Students then put together a presentation on a business idea they had for their own community. The presentation was given to a panel of three judges and to the other schools in attendance. Burwell students came up with a variety store for their business idea. Other schools in attendance presented the following ideas for their community: Ord – dinner/movie theater, Arcadia – recreational/multi-use facility, Greeley/Wolbach/NL-S – gas station, and Cody-Kilgore – renovate library. The Burwell team was awarded first place for their presentation and $200. After presentations, students listened to Kayla Schnuelle from Rural Futures Institute and Eric Johnson, an alternative energy entrepreneur. The day concluded with business tours to Valley County Health System, Kokes Repair & Welding, and Subconn. Burwell students enjoyed the day and did a great job of pitching their business idea.
