The 2014 Nebraska K-12 Digital Citizenship Symposium will be held on Tuesday, October 14th at three locations throughout the state. The increased use of mobile devices and social media in the last several years has caused a dramatic change in the way people communicate and the way students interact with each other. How can we use this change to affect students and encourage them to become a leader worth following?
Participants at the Digital Citizenship Symposium will consist of district teams comprosed of an administrator, teacher, parent, technology coordinator and two students (maximum of six members) who will attend one of the three sites. The symposium will offer several breakout sessions for each diverse group with a culminating activity bringing district teams together to discuss, share and develop their own district vision statement regarding digital citizenship policies.
National and state speakers will set the stage for group discussions. Lead by facilitators, each group will share perceptions, knowledge, and insights as they consider various legal issues, resources, and responsibilities they have in order to become leaders in the digital world.
Speakers will include Karen Haase, H & S School Law, of Lincoln, Nebraska; Ashley Berry, Teen Anti-Bullying Advocate from Littleton, Colorado; Bill Price, Nebraska State Patrol, Norfolk, Nebraska. Representing Burwell Public Schools will be Principal Dave Owen, Paula Warner, Dana Plugge, Ronda Weber, Damon Svoboda, and Molly Mares.
