In June 2024 the Burwell community was a host town for BRAN (bicycle ride across Nebraska) and was presented a $1,500 scholarship to Burwell Jr Sr High School. The Burwell community was also recognized as the best host town for the BRAN 42 event and was presented with another $1,500 scholarship. Mr. Maynard, Burwell Jr Sr High School Superintendent, presented the certificates to the four recipients of the BRAN 42 Host Town Scholarship to seniors Calah Archibeque, Kaitlyn Simpson, Avery Mann, and Gauge DeGroff.
